Darßer NaturfilmFestival 2025: Program section "Beacon"

Peatlands are one of the most effective but least recognized allies in the fight against the climate crisis. Yet little is known about how these special habitats function and what impact they have on the global balance. Filmmakers Ann Christin and Alexander Kornelsen explore this question. With their "Mission to Marsh" initiative, they travel to remote wetlands around the globe - from vast swamp regions to dense mangrove forests. On location, they document the ecological diversity, shed light on the importance of these landscapes for climate protection and show how closely nature conservation and environmental protection are linked. In the course of filming, they meet experts from science and politics. While some work to restore and preserve peatlands, others are responsible for creating a legal framework.
