Anti-war film from 1968 - with introduction and opportunity for discussion afterwards
Film evening: "I was nineteen"
Konrad Wolf's autobiographical masterpiece "I was nineteen" follows 19-year-old Gregor, who returns to the country from which he once had to flee in 1945 as a soldier in the Red Army. The film shows no heroic battles, but rather the difficult search for humanity shortly before the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany. Through Gregor's eyes, we see how reconciliation begins not between fronts, but between people. A deeply pacifist and highly topical film that deals with the absurdity of militarism and nationalism and movingly portrays peace as the only reasonable consequence of war.
