On March 29, 1986, “Rock Me Amadeus” reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard charts—to this day, the only German-language song to top the American charts. Forty years later, the man who lived through it tells the story behind this success.
Rudi Dolezal knew Hans Hölzel before he became Falco. As a director, he shot—mostly together with Hannes Rossacher—nearly all of Falco’s iconic music videos: “Jeanny,” “Emotional,” “Mutter, der Mann mit dem Koks ist da,” and most recently the posthumous “The Spirit Never Dies.”
In his reading show, Dolezal opens up his archive: unpublished video footage, rare photographs, and personal memories. He explains why the video for “Rock Me Amadeus” almost never came to be, how their collaboration worked—and who Hans Hölzel was when the stage persona Falco took a break.
Not a traditional reading, but an evening of images, film, music, and storytelling—in the style of his productions “100 Years of Austropop” and “My Friend Freddie.”
