Reading & discussion with Clara Marz & Maren Wurster: "Ost*West*frau*" | Moderation: Dr. Steffi Brüning (DuG), Susan Schulz (Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung M-V)

What was everyday life like for women in the GDR and West Germany in the 1970s and 1980s? The exhibition "Women in Divided Germany" by the Bundesstiftung Aufarbeitung (Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the Past) provides insights into different living environments and at the same time questions common clichés about "East" and "West" women. Rostock-born cultural scientist Clara Marz, curator of the exhibition, shows general conditions as well as the diversity of female lifestyles in both German states.

We are linking the exhibition with the book "Ost*West*frau*", which brings together biographical stories from East and West. The East German author Franziska Hauser and her West German colleague Maren Wurster set out on a joint search: How does growing up in different social systems shape our personality, sexuality, motherhood, love?

In conversation with Clara Marz and the moderators,Maren Wurster presents unexpected, literary and multi-layered answers to these questions.
