The opening will take place on March 11 at 6 p.m. with music from the High Middle Ages by Dr. Isabel Kraft in the event room of the Stralsund City Library, Badenstraße 13.

When the sun sets over Stralsund's old town on a clear day, its warm light makes the bricks of the Gothic churches glow in fiery shades of red. Always fascinated by this play of colors, the artist and old town resident Hilmar Noerenberg has captured these fleeting impressions on paper on the spot using pastel chalks.

From March 9 to April 17, 2026, these drawings and some large-format works will be exhibited in the Stralsund City Library, supplemented by motifs from France - the motherland of Gothic - and Denmark, where both Christianity and the first brick came to our region.

About the artist Hilmar Noerenberg:

The plein-air draughtsman, who works professionally in a landscape architecture office, is usually out in the great outdoors in search of motifs. Having grown up on the island of Rügen, his longing for the Baltic Sea moved him back to his home in Western Pomerania and he chose Stralsund as his new home in 2022. The impressive medieval buildings have recently inspired him more and more to create architectural depictions.
