Reading & Discussion | Moderation: Ulrika Rinke (Literaturhaus Rostock)
How do you make history speak so that it can be understood? In his debut, Rostock author Ernst Pradel has set out in search of his roots, which lie in Silesia, imperial Austria, Poland and Mecklenburg. In literary set pieces, he tells his story and that of his family from the 1930s until his arrival in a united Germany and on the banks of the Warnow. These are often small incidents in which the connections between great history and private destinies are revealed. The narrative is carried by a human kindness that turns to the "little" people and their untold lives - a book that invites us to enter into conversation about history and the present.
