Lecture on the forgotten pogrom in Erfurt in 1975, given by Jan Schubert and Johann Henningsen
A racist mob, days of attacks and victims who first have to defend themselves and later have to leave Germany. Such a situation did not just occur in August 1992 at the Sonnenblumenhaus, but two decades earlier in Erfurt. Algerian migrant workers were attacked and chased through the city by hundreds of violent criminals from August 10 to 13, 1975. The Algerian workers organized themselves and protested against the racist violence, but also against their discrimination in the GDR. Today, the attacks are also referred to as a "forgotten pogrom". But has German society simply forgotten a racist pogrom? And how do those affected remember the attacks and life in the GDR today?
