The duo Westklang consisting of Daniel Ahlert and Birgit Schwab will play for the International Guitar Festival at the Kunsthalle Kühlungsborn on August 29th.
The duo Westklang, founded in 2022, is united by a love of playing, the utmost precision in ensemble playing and the search for new paths. Both studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln/Standort Wuppertal, are scholarship holders and winners of major competitions and celebrated their debut as an ensemble with a live performance on WDR3. Daniel Ahlert (mandolin) can already look back on a long international career as a soloist and chamber musician with many hundreds of concerts, which has taken him to renowned festivals such as the Leipzig Bach Festival and the La Guitarra California Festival (USA), particularly as a duo with Birgit Schwab (lute/guitar). In order to expand his repertoire, he always works with composers and premieres the newly created music or records it on CD. Nicola Yasmin Stock (guitar) is also the dedicatee of numerous new compositions, particularly in the context of her innovative Left Hand Guitar Pieces Project (music for guitar with the left hand alone). Another important concern of hers is the still underrepresented music of female composers. She also performs as a soloist at festivals around the world, such as the Kashiwazaki Sound Market (Japan) and Guitarrea Garza Roja (Ecuador).
