Event as part of the 30th Schwerin Literature Days
VERZWEIFLUNGEN and ARBEITEN: Two books - One evening: Reading and discussion with Heike Geißler
Heike Geißler writes against impositions - against speechlessness, against capitalist logics of exploitation, excessive demands, powerlessness and against unsustainable conditions that defy change. Her two new books "Arbeiten" and "Verzweiflungen" are poetic and political essays that not only describe conditions, but also question them and provide answers to the various despairing situations of our time. They combine personal experiences - from growing up in the GDR to stories of violence and family history - with straightforward and intelligent observations of current social and political developments. They tell of anger and fatigue, of movements of thought and the attempt to use language not only to document, but to act.
An evening about writing in and against the present - about exhaustion, self-assertion, language as a tool and the attempt to keep a clear view in the midst of contradictory realities.
Heike Geißler, born in Riesa in 1977, is an author, translator, co-editor of the magazine series Lückenkann man lesen and co-founder of the intervention format Sabotique. Heike Geißler has been awarded numerous scholarships and prizes and lives with her family in Leipzig.
