Paul Seko has been engaged with the urban art of graffiti since his youth. The tension inherent in graffiti continues to shape Seko’s work to this day. The classic graffiti of his early days has evolved into conceptual art that explores new approaches and questions how we use resources.
Seko’s new exhibition, CYCLE, plays with contradictions and places objects in new contexts of meaning. The work is inspired by cycles as well as the reinterpretation of materials and so-called waste products. New things are created from old ones and placed in different contexts. His understanding of graffiti is reflected in a minimalist approach—using what is already there. It’s about contrasts and contradictions: different materials and techniques. A particular focus is placed on primary colors. Paul Seko continually evolves his art—everything is reused, creating cycles.
Series such as VOID, CLUSTER, and BOXES showcase various manifestations of this form of expression, which are unique in their exploration of production mechanisms and sustainability.
For CYCLE, Seko creates a specially designed art space. Temporary exhibition elements showcase the featured works and give rise to new worlds within the existing spaces.
