Closing concert of the 9th Jewish Culture Days in Rostock
The Diplomatic String Quartet, consisting of Matthias Hummel (violin), Felix Klein (Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life and the Fight against Anti-Semitism, violin), Waltraut Elvers (viola) and Gabriella Strümpel (violoncello), presents a moderated concert with works by Jewish composers of the 20th century who were long ostracized and almost forgotten. The program includes Charlotte Schlesinger's rarely performed string quartet, Egon Lustgarten's "The Secrets" and Leone Sinigaglia's "Hora mystica". Kurt Weill's "Youkali" will also be performed in an arrangement for string quartet. The concert will conclude with Henriette Bosmans' lively string quartet, with the Scherzo of Laks' 3rd Quartet as an encore. This concert brings back the timeless beauty of Jewish music. It is sponsored by the cultural program of the Central Council of Jews.
