Themed tours in the Ludwigslust and Wiligrad castle parks
Climate action day in historic gardens and parks - themed tours in the Ludwigslust and Wiligrad palace parks
The State Palaces, Gardens and Art Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (SSGK M-V) are also inviting visitors to themed tours to mark the nationwide climate change action day in historic gardens and parks.
On Saturday, September 27,
at 11 a.m.
experts from the SSGK M-V will explain under the titles
"Water, forest, change - climate impacts in Ludwigslust Castle Park" (meeting point: at the castle terrace)
"Wiligrad Castle Park - a green idyll in the face of climate change" (meeting point: at the castle entrance)
the consequences that climate change is already having on historic garden monuments.
During the one-hour tours, the experts will provide insights into the challenges that climate change poses for historic parks: Drought and heat are putting a strain on old tree populations, storms and heavy rainfall are causing damage to paths and green spaces, new pests are spreading rapidly. At the same time, the guided tours show how the gardens are being preserved and cared for despite these developments - so that they can continue to be experienced as places of recreation, enjoyment and culture in the future.
Participation in the guided tours is free of charge on this day.
The day of action is organized by the Association of German Palace Administrations (AGDS), which brings together the major palace administrations in Germany. In addition to the State Palaces, Gardens and Art Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, this also includes the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten Berlin-Brandenburg. Together, they are developing strategies for adapting historical gardens and parks to climate change.
The first results have already been published on the website:
