Afterwards, the audience can ask questions to the director Jens Becker and the protagonists of the film
Summer 1961 in Anklam: Class 12b of the extended secondary school is preparing for its Abitur. Suddenly, nothing is as it was before.
After a protest against increasing militarization, five teachers are dismissed and 26 students are expelled. They are not allowed to graduate. They are not allowed to study. Three of them were even sent to the Stasi prison in Neustrelitz and were subsequently sentenced to long prison terms. Their lives were destroyed and their hopes shattered.
The documentary traces the events and asks the former victims about their development. The result is a sensual document that vividly portrays fate.
