Documentary Chile/ France 2022, OmU / Director: Patricio Guzmán FSK from 12 years
One day and without warning, nationwide protests broke out in October 2019. It was the event that documentary filmmaker Patricio Guzmán had been waiting for all his life: one and a half million people took to the streets of Santiago de Chile to demand justice, education, healthcare and a new constitution. The strict rules that had been imposed on the country during Pinochet's military dictatorship were to be replaced.
"Mi país imaginario" shows stirring footage of protests on the front line and interviews with committed people. It impressively establishes a link between Chile's complicated and bloody history, the current social movements and the election of a new president.
"How was it possible that 47 years after Pinochet's coup, an entire nation awoke in a social uprising, a real rebellion, even a revolution? - It was a mystery to me. So I investigated this mystery and filmed how it affected the mood, the air, the emotions and feelings of the people in my country." (Patricio Guzmán)
