The multimedia journey through the life of this exceptional artist, who was discovered by Edith Piaf and wrote chansons for her together with Becaud, shows an eventful life full of adventurousness, subtle irony and exuberant joie de vivre. Even at the age of 94, he was still touring all continents with his music. In total, he wrote around 1,300 songs for himself and many others - in eight languages, one of them in sign language for the deaf. Aznavour recorded exactly 91 albums, which sold 180 million copies - and made 80 films along the way.
The production, created in cooperation with the Hamburg Chamber Opera, promises a unique evening of theater full of history and stories with captivating music full of surprises, sensuality and emotion. Stephan Hippe, who fell in love with chanson as an art form at an early age, was also present when Charles Aznavour celebrated his 90th birthday in Berlin. At one of their last personal meetings, Aznavour authorized Stephan Hippe's translation of "Sa Jeunesse".
