The Philotheater is celebrating its 13th birthday - and this year we invite you to a special evening that creates space for reflection. The self-written texts of this year's A-level students use satire to take you into a seemingly familiar world: Stories come to life, thoughts are set in motion and the seemingly self-evident shines in a new light.
It is based on the philosophy of the ancient thinker Plato, whose allegory of the cave serves as a timeless symbol of knowledge and truth. Based on this, we use humor and intellect to show how uncomfortable truth can be - and why some people prefer to stay in the cave.
What happens when what we believe to be real is only well staged? When certainties flicker like projections and apparent comfort is more dangerous than doubt? Our play throws us into the middle of a world in which people prefer to look rather than ask, prefer to believe rather than understand - and in which knowledge initially hurts before it liberates.
We invite you to look at the world from unusual perspectives, to ask questions and to question the answers. An evening full of excitement, humor and insight awaits you - an experience that will make you think and inspire your imagination.
Look forward to a production that shows that theater is far more than entertainment: a mirror of our perception, our thoughts and our possibilities. Above all, however, we want to demonstrate how clever, imaginative and idealistic the youth of 2026 think, feel and act.
Laughter guaranteed. Thinking inevitable. Entertaining. Ironic. Disturbingly clever.
Plato would have loved it - or at least critically scrutinized it.
