Guided tours, exhibitions and citizens' advice on October 18 For the first time, the Federal Archives - Stasi Records Archive Schwerin will be taking part in the Night of Knowledge on Saturday, October 18, with a wide range of archive tours, exhibitions and advice for citizens.
With two flashlight tours, one for children on the topic of "Collecting data in secret - in a time before the internet, X, facebook, tiktok and co" and one for adults on the Stasi's object storage, we provide insights into the history, holdings and working methods of the Schwerin Stasi Records Archive. In addition to files, card indexes and photos, it also stores Stasi objects. A total of around 2,370 linear meters of documents are stored here. They show the structure, working methods and effectiveness of the GDR secret police in the former district of Schwerin, but also document stories of civil courage and resistance. In addition to the guided tours, visitors can view various exhibitions, including on the Stasi in the former district of Schwerin or on the "Road to German Unity" in photographs from the picture archive of the Federal Archives. It is also possible to apply for access to Stasi documents. A valid identity document is required for this.
