Katrin Oldenburg was born in the Harz Mountains in the GDR (1976). As a war granddaughter, the author has been dealing with the topics of family history and family secrets in the GDR for many years. In the course of her research, she came across a wide variety of reasons why certain experiences in the families were covered by a cloak of silence. What is not named apparently does not exist - to protect one's own soul and to supposedly protect others.
