Exhibition on the 100th birthday of Bertram von Schmiterlöw. On 05.11.2025 you are invited to the vernissage in the Jakobi Church Stralsund. The public exhibition can be visited from 18:30. On display will be 60 selected works from the extensive oeuvre of the painter and local historian. On display until the end of the year.

Bertram Nikolaus Otto Gustav Alexander von Schmiterlöw was born in Franzburg on November 6, 1925 and died there on September 28, 2021. He was the youngest child and first son after six daughters of the married couple Erik and Minna von Schmiterlöw, a family with Slavic roots.
From the 15th century onwards, the family provided important councillors and mayors in Stralsund and Greifswald. From the 1940s onwards, Bertram von Schmiterlöw occupied himself with painting. He was supported by the Stralsund painter Hedwig Freese and the painters Erich Kliefert and Heinrich Lietz.
Heinrich Lietz. In 1979, he showed his works in his first small exhibition. This was followed by numerous exhibitions of his own and participation in exhibitions, mostly in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Two permanent exhibitions were held in the church and town hall of Franzburg.

From 1954 to 1992, Betram von Schmiterlöw worked at the Museum of Cultural History in Stralsund. In 1992, the town of Franzburg made him an honorary citizen.
