Music theater
The Kornhaus invites you to the theater performance "barlach - Are we in the good times". The play sheds light on the life, work and challenges of the important artist Ernst Barlach, who was confronted with massive marginalization, especially during the National Socialist era.
Ernst Barlach, an outstanding sculptor, graphic artist and writer, was not only a master of his craft, but also a man who stood up for his convictions. At a time when art and culture were suppressed, the play impressively shows how Barlach fought against the trends of his time and raised his voice.
The production is aimed at young people aged 12 and over as well as adults and offers a unique combination of gripping storytelling and rousing live music. The musical accompaniment enhances the emotional depth of the play and creates an atmosphere that immerses the audience in Barlach's time.
The performance will be followed by an audience discussion, during which the audience will have the opportunity to talk to the actors about the themes of the play. This offers a valuable opportunity to engage with the challenges of art in times of crisis - both in Barlach's time and today.
This performance is sponsored by the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Admission is free.
