Schloss Vietgest presents the Astoria Salon Orchestra : An American in Paris - Homage to Joséphine Baker & George Gershwin
Joséphine Baker has fascinated audiences for over a century - as a dancer, singer, activist and symbolic figure of an entire era. In the 1920s, she conquered Paris with sensual, unconventional performances and became the muse of artists such as Picasso and Gershwin. France celebrated her not only as a show star, but also as a resistance fighter during the Second World War. With her husband Jo Bouillon, she founded a rainbow family with twelve adopted children.
To mark the 100th anniversary of her first appearance in Berlin, the Astoria Salonorchester is dedicating a special concert evening to her - as a tribute to her artistic and social work.
The concert is part of the Klingendes Gut series, sponsored by the NDR Film and Music Fund and the Bürgerfonds Kultur MV. The musical and literary journey brings culture to places steeped in history in Mecklenburg's manor houses.
