Reading, talk & coffee as part of the program "Women in Divided Germany" | Moderation: Dr. Steffi Brüning (DuG)
Annett Gröschner's novel "Schwebende Lasten" is the story of the flower arranger and crane operator Hanna, a working woman's life in Magdeburg from 1913 to 1973.
While 49 percent of women in the GDR were employed or in training in 1950, in 1989 their share was more than 90 percent. This put the GDR at the top of the world. What was everyday life like for women in the GDR between work, household, partnership and children? What experiences did Rostock women of different generations have?
