ANNEGRET WILL GO TO CHICAGO - reading with Juli Katz
A professional chicken farmer who is no longer a professional chicken farmer has to figure out what to do with his life - this is the origin of the story by author and journalist Juli Katz, with which she won the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Jury Prize for Literature and the Saal Audience Award in 2024. In it, she tells the story of a couple who sell their chickens overnight and suddenly find themselves without a purpose in life. "It is the big questions that Juli Katz asks in her wonderfully light-footed story: about the value of a successful life, about the motives for staying or leaving," the jury said in its statement.
With Annegret and new texts, she is now making a stop at the Schwerin Literature Days.
Juli Katz, born in 1990, studied Creative Writing and Cultural Journalism as well as Applied Literary Studies. She came to Greifswald in 2019 to help set up KATAPULT magazine and works as a freelance journalist and author in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. She now writes for regional and national media. She has also stayed in the country because of her dog and chicken.
The story "Annegret wants to go to Chicago" is part of a novel project that the author is currently working on.
