Writer and journalist Juli Katz is coming to Stralsund City Library on September 30, 2025 - with her story "Annegret wants to go to Chicago", with which she won the MV 2024 Literature Prize.
"To avoid disappointment, Annegret isn't doing anything right now. Walter interrupts her and gives her three eggs, the outermost fingernail torn, but no sign of complaint."
A professional chicken farmer who is no longer one has to figure out how to move on with his life - this is the origin of the story by writer and journalist Juli Katz, with which she won the 2024 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Literature Prize. In 2025, she is on a reading tour through MV - and will of course be stopping off in Stralsund.
"To go or to stay? Journalist Juli Katz has given a convincing literary answer to this old question with her wonderfully light-footed story of Annegret in 2024," said the Literature Prize jury in its statement.
Juli Katz, born in 1990, is an author and freelance journalist and writes for regional and national media, mostly about science, politics, culture and work - preferably in rural areas. She moved to Greifswald for work in 2019 and currently lives in the Lake District with her dog Spatz, where she is working on her literary debut and her first film.
