Anne Frank makes up a friend in 1942. She calls her Kitty and writes to her in her diary for over two years. In the film "Where is Anne Frank", Kitty comes to life in Amsterdam in 2019 and sets off in search of Anne and the Frank family.
She follows Anne's footsteps, from the Secret Annex to her tragic death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. She is supported on her journey by her friend Peter, who runs a secret shelter for undocumented refugees. She is dismayed and saddened by the injustices to which refugee children are exposed. That's why Kitty wants to spread Anne's message of hope and humanity and share it with future generations.
The film by director Ari Folman was first shown at the 2021 Cannes International Film Festival. It was shown on German television for the first time on KiKA on November 4, 2023.
