The Dutch children's film MY FRIEND THE GIRAFFE tells the enchanting story of Dominik and Raff. Two friends who share everything - until the first day of school comes and suddenly they can no longer be together.
Little Dominik is already really excited. The next morning he has to go to school for the first time. Dominik has to tell his best friend Raff straight away. So off he goes to the zoo. Raff is a giraffe who was born on the same day as Dominik and is looking forward to his first day at school just as much. But when they find out that Raff, as a giraffe, is not allowed to go to a human school, Dominik has to come up with an ingenious plan to keep the two unlikely friends together after all. With MY FRIEND THE GIRAFFE, director Barbara Bredero has succeeded in making an all-round successful children's film in the best Dutch tradition. But that's not all: the wonderful mixture of a chaotic yet love-filled parental home and a strong child protagonist, who is often much smarter and more sophisticated than the adults around her, is also reminiscent of Astrid Lindgren's stories in the best sense of the word.
"The production is characterized by a good feel for the boy's situation and also appears coherent and endearing in its depiction of the relationships between parents and children. - Worth seeing for ages 6 and up." (filmdienst)
