MORRIS FROM AMERICA tells the sensitive, romantic story of a 13-year-old American boy growing up in Heidelberg - a place where seemingly no one is like him.
Morris (Markees Christmas) is an overweight, dark-skinned, American boy. Each of these characteristics makes him stand out in Heidelberg. He lives there with his father Curtis (Craig Robinson), who works on the coaching staff of the local professional soccer club. Morris' mother died not so long ago. He and Curtis are more like friends than a typical father-son relationship. Their shared love of hip-hop in particular binds them together.
Morris' only contacts in Heidelberg are his father and Inka (Carla Juri), his private German teacher. She wants Morris to have more contact with other young people and advises him to go to a youth center regularly. There he meets Katrin (Lina Keller) - and immediately falls in love with her.
Katrin is rebellious and can hardly wait to finally escape from petit-bourgeois Heidelberg. In contrast to everyone else who rejects and teases Morris, Katrin finds Morris somehow interesting.
