We cordially invite you to a discussion on the topic with contemporary witnesses: Mönkebude 1945 - memories and experiences
The year 1945 marked a profound turning point in the history of Germany - also for Mönkebude and its surroundings. The last months of the war, the arrival of the Red Army on April 28th and the political and social upheavals had a lasting impact on the lives of the population.
Historian Christoph Wunnicke will set the scene for the evening with a brief introduction to the events of 1945. Afterwards, contemporary witnesses will talk about their experiences and memories, followed by an open discussion with the audience about the last months of the war and the difficult time of the new beginning in Mönkebude.
A small snack and drinks will be provided.
