AMOR AGAINST GOLIATH - Reading with Frank Schulz
Cathi Weye, a popular psychologist and committed climate campaigner, wants to finally relax on a Greek island - and mend her relationship with her beloved but increasingly strange husband Ricky. The ex-stage performer tries to hide the fact that he suffers from severe anxiety disorders; instead of writing new songs, he holes up at home in the rehearsal room and here on vacation in his room, where he only swallows tranquilizers and fights his anxiety. The worry of losing Cathi drives him to silent but enervating acts of jealousy.
Next door: the flamboyant Philipp Büttner, journalist, womanizer, on a mission. A certain "Konfusius" is causing a stir on the net with his bizarre appearances and eloquent sermons against nature-destroying mankind - Büttner suspects he is on the island and wants the big expose. With so much need for recreation and so much to talk about together, Cathi and Büttner soon become dangerously close. And in addition to the climate crisis, a private one soon looms.
Frank Schulz, born in 1957, has received numerous awards for his novels, including the Hubert Fichte Prize (2004), the Irmgard Heilmann Prize (2006) and the Kassel Literature Prize for Grotesque Humor (2015). His three Onno Viets novels were published between 2012 and 2016. His most recent book of stories is "Anmut und Feigheit".
