BoddenKunst on the southern Bodden coast
Art, crafts and enjoyment from the southern Bodden coast - June to September 2026
For the second time, the pop-up summer gallery on the Anger in the old fire station in Bresewitz will open its doors from June to September during the opening hours of the tourist information office and will exclusively present works by people who are rooted on the Southern Bodden Coast. On June 10 from 10 a.m., the participating artists, craftspeople and producers can be seen in person at the vernissage in the small gallery.
Bresewitz. Anyone traveling along the Baltic Sea coastal long-distance cycle path or heading to the Fischland-Darß-Zingst Peninsula by car via the Meiningen Bridge will hardly pass the Pruchten ice cream parlor, the Dabels country bakery or the Schuhmann ice cream café in Bresewitz without stopping. The stores are cult, and have been for a long time. Since June 2025, there has been another reason to stop off in Bresewitz: the pop-up summer gallery of the Südliche Boddenküste tourist office in the tourist information center Am Anger, just around the corner from Eis-Cafè Schuhmann.
What can be seen, touched and tasted here is original and consistently from the Southern Bodden Coast, genuine Bodden art. The painter Marion Miß-Luig (MILU) from Bartelshagen II captures the vastness, light and water of the Saaler Bodden in her oil and acrylic paintings. Petra and Max Barske from Holzhausatelier Pruchten present paintings and objects made of wood and metal. Michaela Saß from Pruchten turns tree beads into wooden ornaments and paints motifs in bold oil colors on large canvas or in pocket-sized filigree. Dieter Kittel lives in Saal am Bodden and photographs the original coastal landscapes of the region in color and black and white, as a snapshot of nature and again and again as a nude. Regina Chinow from Saal is the caricaturist among the ceramists: her "Rakuritäten" are animal figures with the unmistakable "Kieke-Eyes" pair of eyes, fired at 1000 degrees according to an old Japanese technique, they make Raku laugh. Ceramist Andrea Schlief from Kronsberg takes the opposite approach: back to the roots of the ancient art of raku. Concentrated and uncompromising, she creates functional ceramics and decorative table and home décor. The painter Sigrid Elsenhans, also from Kronsberg, manages to express typical motifs from the Bodden coast with just a few watercolor strokes: Poppies, cranes, Zeesboote, the Bodden villages. Daniela Graupner stands for EiEiOstsee: handmade egg liqueurs from Bresewitz. Together with her husband, she produces a remarkable range of varieties from fresh eggs from her own hens, without colorants, in small batches with a great taste. Farmer Paul Wiechmann from Saal refines his rapeseed harvest and cold-presses rapeseed oil from his own seeds on the Saaler Bodden. Roland Wolff from Kronsberg mainly uses found wood from his surroundings (forest, beach or from demolished buildings), which already has the natural basic shape of a ship, and uses it to make ship variations and objects.
The range is wide, the common denominator of all is their home between the Bodden towns of Ribnitz-Damgarten and Barth, their place to live and work. The temporary exhibition until the end of September is a showcase of BoddenKunst, a showcase of diversity and an express invitation to visit the artists and producers in their studios and stores in the Bodden villages.
The pop-up summer gallery gives guests the opportunity to look, taste, enjoy and buy every Monday-Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and by appointment.
