Reading

"Above that, the year took its course, the sailors set sail again in the spring, the globe continued to turn inexorably, the seasons alternated. Life lived on."

Gerhard Dallmann was not only very attached to his home region of Pomerania, but was also particularly interested in its cultural history. He spent a lot of time in archives in Greifswald and Stralsund researching the region. In the novel "Dornenzeit", he sheds light on Swedish-Pomeranian history. Quiet observations of the impressive nature on the island of Hiddensee and the Baltic Sea region are combined with depictions of almost buried Pomeranian history in the period from 1770-1810, describing island life under the rule of the Stralsund merchant Ulrich Giese and his wife Sophie Elisabeth, the "Queen of Hiddensee". The poverty of the cottagers, the life of the boatmen, the long tradition of the island parish and the fateful lives of two friends are impressively described. Dallmann succeeds in creating a wonderful, indeed remarkable, period setting.
Roland Rosenstock, professor at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Greifswald and a companion of Dallmann's, will read from the novel and talk about his encounters with Gerhard Dallmann.
Before the event, interested guests will have the opportunity to print a postcard with a Dallmann quote as well as ships and clouds - popular motifs in Gerhard Dallmann's work.

Admission is free.
