Author reading with Dr. Nikolai Okunew
Nikolai Okunew tells the story of the heavy metal scene in the GDR on the basis of extensive archive research, dozens of interviews and the broad tradition of the scene. He shows how its bands developed and how fans traveled in droves to all corners of the country at weekends to party, drink and headbang. Conflicts with the police and the Stasi become just as clear as the role of radio, which brought heavy metal to the country.
